Note | Notes from an interview with Auni in Petroskoi, Summer 2000.
"Mikko returned from the army and was told that there was a beautiful girl at Soukelo, Mehvo's daughter. Mikko was older then she was. Mehvo didn't give her a marriage chest, but she got one from the other families in the village because she helped the other elders. Jouki (Jevdokia) was ill and perhaps Stepanie took the place of the mother, and this is why Mehvo didn't wan't her to go. She had promised to marry Mikko, and they went to his village, which was the same village as her father's, where they settled. After the birth of there first child, Matro b1920, Mehvo gave in and himself carried the wedding chest to her. Mikko's father, Sergei, built two houses, one side was the couple.
Mikko came home all wet from the forest - 'Can I change' he asked - 'No. we are leaving straight away - KGB' 1937. He was never seen again." |
